The War Within the Congress

On 9 th  August all the opposition political parties gathered Kapil Sibbal, one of the 23 signatories (now known as G-23) to the letter sent to Congress President in early August, 2020. Except BSP, all political parties barring NDA & its allies, attended the dinner hosted by Mr. Sibal. The erstwhile BJP allies Akali Dal, Biju Janta Dal, YSRCP, TRS were there. Traditional rivals TMC & Left parties surprisingly shared the dais. This dinner get-together had backdrop of two important political events. One was continuous boycott of Government’s Parliamentary legislative business & disruption of current session of the Parliament on various issues by opposition parties. Secondly, Rahul Gandhi’s breakfast meeting on 03 rd  August, 2021 with opposition parties to discuss strategy for ongoing Parliament session on issue like economy, farm laws; alleged snooping of opposition leaders, journalists, judges & other prominent persons; price-rise; mis-management of COVID-19 by Union

Time For Reckoning for Jitin Prasada

After Jitin Prasada resigned from Congress to join BJP, there have been numerous reactions. Some see it as sign of decaying Congress and Gandhi family's weakened authority or as some say by design to show the door to the young leaders specially dynasts who could pose any challenge to the authority of Rahul or Priyanka. But there is another aspect to it. Due to mainstream electronic and print media's deliberate avoidance to put actions, reactions or politics of ruling BJP through any scrutiny; few very pertinent issues have not been discussed or spoken about in public domain. The issue is why BJP is keen to let young leaders cross over into, when it has a litany of young emerging leaders in all age brackets; how new-entrants are being treated and how they blend within BJP ?  To understand this, one will have to go back to August 2015 when Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned from Congress and joined BJP. He was a sitting MLA & a minister in then Congress government in Assam. He had

RG as CP again !

RG as CP again ! The Congress Working Committee (CWC), as per Congress constitution the supreme decision making body in the party, during its meeting held on 13 th  May decided to further postpone election for the office of the AICC President. Though contrary to view held by some its members, this event is of no consequences to people of India, but it has implication for the Congress workers’ & Congress leaders’ future across Nation. The reason assigned for postponing long overdue election for the office of Congress President is pandemic. But this essentially is only one reason. But incidentally it didn’t deter the party from campaigning extensively during the 5 States Legislative Assembly elections. The underlying primary reason is defeat in 5 states assembly elections. Now it has become very difficult to designate Rahul Gandhi (RG) the next party president even through organisational election.
